Submitting a Query from the Home Page

Find information across available Engineering Workbench sources, including:

• Codes & Standards

• Books

• Articles & Journals

• Patents & Applications

• Regulations

If you also have a Knowledge Workspace subscription, additional sources may appear, such as:

• Occupational Health and Safety

• Food and Drink Safety

• Irish Occupational Health and Safety

• Environmental Management

Query Area

The query area includes:

• Search box – Enter a natural-language query or a document number.

• Search configuration – Choose a predefined scope, such as Codes & Standards or All Content.

• Advanced Search – Build precise queries using metadata such as title, author, publication date, or publication number.

• Search button – Runs the search using the selected configuration.

To Submit a Query

1. Type your query in the search box. Suggestions and corrections appear as you type.
2. (Optional) Select a search configuration to refine your results.
3. (Optional) Use Advanced Search for metadata-based searching and subscription filtering.
4. Click Search.

Results open on the Research page.

Exact Search

To search for an exact word or phrase, enclose it in quotation marks. Only documents with an exact match in the title or body are returned.

Query Type-Ahead

As you type, the search box displays:

• Your recent queries (if available)

• Suggested terms based on indexed content

• Popular related documents, accessible directly from the list
