Working with documents

In the list of answers and citations you can do the following:

If you see , it means the document is not part of your company subscription. To order a personal copy, click the shopping cart, and then select either hard copy or electronic copy. To add the document to your wish list, click Add to My Wish List. You can see a list of all the documents that you have added to your wish list on the Subscription Requests page.

If you see, it means the document is not part of your company subscription, but a preview of the document is available. Click the document title or number to display a preview in the Document Viewer.

If you see , it means a subscription or purchase from an external source is required to open the document. This is not a document you can order from Accuris.

If you see , it means a document note is linked to the document. If you are an Engineering Workbench user, click the icon to view the note. If you are an Engineering Workbench administrator, click the icon to edit the document note or to create a new note.

If you see , it means you can access Smart Compare for this document. This means that you can conduct a side-by-side comparison of two versions of the same document. Smart Compare is a feature that you can access when you are subscribed two versions of the same document. (If you are only subscribed to one version of a document that has multiple versions, will you see the Smart Compare icon, but you will not be able to view the comparison until you purchase another, different version of that document).

To open a document in the program in which it was created, click the document title link in the citation. If you have installed the Engineering WorkbenchHighlighting plug-in, the document is opened with the extracted sentence highlighted. Note: Some documents are opened in the Document Viewer, an Engineering Workbench application that enables users to have a more interactive experience working with the document.

Codes & Standards features

If you see a Redline link, it means there is a corresponding redline document. If your company has a subscription to the redline document, click Redline to display it in separate Document Viewer window. If a redline document exists, but you do not have a subscription to it, the link is visible (grayed-out), but disabled. If your company does not have a subscription that enables you to access a redline document, contact Accuris Customer Care for details about getting a subscription.

If you see a FLIS link, it means there is FLIS (Federal Logistics Information System) data related to the document. Click FLIS to display it in a separate Document Viewer window.

If you see a Slash Sheets link, it means there is one, or more, slash sheets related to the document. Click Slash Sheets to display them in a separate Document Viewer window.

If you see a QPL(qualified products list) link, it means there is one, or more, QPLs, related to the document. Click QPL to display them in a separate Document Viewer window.

If you are working with a Codes & Standards document, then you might see a link for the website of the standards developing organization (SDO) that is the source of the document.

Saving a bookmark link to a document

To save a bookmark link to a document

  1. Click next to the relevant document.
  2. Type a name for your bookmark.
  3. (Optional) Type a description of the document.
  4. To display your bookmark on the home page, select the Display on Home Page check box.
  5. To link your bookmark to a project in My Workspaces, click and then select an existing project or add a new project.

Note: If you see , it means there is already a bookmark link saved to this document.

Adding Codes & Standards documents to watch lists

To add a document to a watch list

  1. Click next to the relevant document.
  2. In the Add to watch list dialog box, do one of the following:
  1. (Optional) Select the Automatically update ... check box to update the document to the most recent revision.
  2. Click Add.'

Note: If you see next to a search result, then the Codes & Standards document has already been added to a watch list.

Adding a document to wish list

To add a document that is not part of your subscription to your wish list

  1. Click
  2. Click Add to My Wish List
  3. Provide justification for this subscription request.
  4. Click Submit.

Attaching a document note to a document

If you are an Engineering Workbench administrator, you can add a note to a document to alert users to information related to a document. Each document note is associated with a document or document family. Document notes are visible to all users of a subaccount when they view a document with a note attached. You can add a note to some, but not all documents in Engineering Workbench .

  1. Click to create a document note.
  2. Type a title for your note.
  3. Apply your note to the document or a document family.
  4. Type your note.
  5. Click Save.

Note: If you see next to a search result, it means a document note already exists in association with a document. Click it to edit an existing document note, or create a new one.
